Tuohy is located in the beautiful Swan Valley region. Our bright and welcoming home offers large activity areas and lounges, all surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Tuohy Aged Care Home have won two Commonwealth Better Practice Awards from the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. This prestigious national award recognises outstanding innovations in care.
The 2015 Better Practice Award rewarded Tuohy for their approach to supporting the care needs of older people of diverse sexual orientations. Through a multidisciplinary program, staff have been able to foster a culture within the home that is inclusive and accepting of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) residents.
The 2017 Better Practice Award recognised the support and care taken to ensure care recipients’ final wishes are being identified and respected. Partnering with care recipients, their representatives, care staff, and community links, the home developed the My Life, My Wishes booklet to document care recipients’ life stories, preferences and requirements.

The Tuohy Aged Care Home Benefits
From the care we provide to the relationships we build.
We are proud of our demonstrated leadership in providing inclusive aged care and welcome all people regardless of lifestyle choices, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation or gender identity.
With the support of Perth-based group GLBTI Rights in Australia (GRAI), Tuohy’s former Residential Care Manager Jayne Cummings and her staff have been able to work with residents to ensure their needs are met with inclusive and appropriate actions.
Tuohy’s staff received in-house training from GRAI, who work to raise awareness and improve the quality of life for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) elders, earlier in 2015 as part of the Federal Government-funded National LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care Training Project.
As an organisation, Hall & Prior is responding to the need for appropriate care by creating an LGBTI policy and has formed a committee to ensure the comprehensive rollout of inclusive language through all forms and documentation.
The insights from Tuohy’s journey have been shared with our homes across the organisation, supporting residents who face a similar journey and providing a positive model for GRAI to share as they help other nursing homes in their education and support programs for gender and sexuality in aged care homes.
For your peace of mind, we provide 24-hour care by registered nurses who are supported by a dedicated team of enrolled nurses and personal carers. We have the expertise to assist with complex care requirements, and will always discuss your care with you and your family.
In recognition of our very high standards of care and services, Tuohy has been fully accredited by the Australian Government meeting all 42 of the expected outcomes.
Staying active and socialising is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Our activity program changes each month, but will always include bus trips and outings, arts and crafts, movie days and theme days. We have a number of volunteers supporting our home and have regular musical performances, fetes, raffles and visits from school groups.
From bus trips and concerts to gardening activities, a men’s club and summer barbecues in our garden, there’s always something to do at Tuohy.
Friends and family are more than welcome to join in any of our activities.
Your room will be furnished for you, but we encourage you to bring personal belongings such as photographs and soft furnishings to help you feel at home. There are television sets that you can watch in our common rooms, but you are welcome to bring you own television or radio if you wish.
Enjoying a variety of delicious, nutritionally balanced meals is an important part of maintaining good health. From our central kitchen, our executive chef, sous chef and dietician create menus that provide variety and maximum nutritional value without compromising on taste. We offer choices of hot and cold meals, cater for allergies, intolerances and culturally-specific needs, and create a special menu for a theme day each month.

The cost of aged care is dependent on your circumstances and is different for everyone. The cost of your care and accommodation at Tuohy can include the following:
Basic daily fee
This covers living costs such as meals, power and laundry. For some people, this is the only fee they are required to pay.
This fee is set by the Department of Human Services at 85% of the single pension and is indexed in March and September each year. To read the latest schedule of fees and charges go to the Department of Health website.
Means-tested care fee
This is an additional contribution towards to the cost of your care that some people are required to pay, and is based on an assessment of your income and assets.
Accommodation payment
This charge covers your accommodation at Tuohy and is based on an assessment of your income and assets.
You can choose to make your accommodation payments as either:
– a lump sum of what is called a ‘refundable accommodation payment’
– a daily accommodation payment
– a combination of both
